Why is a mattress pad important?
Mattress pads are more than just a protective cover to extend the life of your expensive mattress. They also keep your mattress clean and dry, ultimately increasing your comfort for a good night's sleep. While your mattress fabric is made of polyester, a mattress pad made of 100% cotton will be your best choice. Cotton mattress pads provide moisture absorbing characteristics for maximum comfort. Mattress pads provide extra soft comfort with a generous addition of polyester batting, quilted for support to your body. A mattress pad not only provides comfort, but it also protects your investment, and is machine washable for easy care.

Why is thread count important?
Thread count is the single most important quality to look for when purchasing sheets and bedding products, it represents the number of threads woven into each square in of fabric.. As a general rule, the higher the thread count, the better quality material, smoother surface and longer product life.
What is the size of your mattress?

In today's world of mattress selections, you may purchase or own a mattress that may be from 6 - 18" thick. The thickness of your mattress can affect the sheets, mattress pad and your comforter or bedspread in "fitting" your bed correctly. Bed in a bag products are not recommended for extra thick mattresses. The higher quality sheets, mattress pads, comforters and bedspreads are usually made more generous in size to fit the extra thick mattresses

  • Combed Cotton: The combing process removes the short fibers and any debris that may be in the fiber when it was in the field. A cleaner, more uniform and lustrous yarn results.
  • Mercerized Cotton: A wet finishing process for cotton yarn or fabric, which results in a stronger and more lustrous yarn that takes dye better with brighter, deeper colors.
  • Flannel: A soft, medium weight plain or twill weave fabric, usually made of cotton with a napped finish on one or both sides. The raised surface provides a fluffy appearance and super soft, cozy feel. Great for warmth during the winter months.
  • Percale: A closely woven, plain weave, spun fabric made from both carded and combed yarns. Percale sheeting is the finest sheeting available. The high thread count gives the fabric a soft, silk-like feel. Used for sheets and bedspreads. Percale equals quality linens.
  • 100% Cotton: Nature has given cotton attributes that makes it a smoother, softer and more comfortable choice. Its "breathable," so cotton sheets never feel sticky against your skin. Cotton sheets release soil easily, so they wash clean.

What sizes can I get for my satin bed sheet?
Satin sheets are available to buy online in a vast variety of colors and sizes. Generally they come as a flat sheet, or a fitted sheet which can be either ‘standard’ or ‘deep’ depending on the depth of your mattress. Some suppliers also produce fitted sheets for round beds. The standard sizes are 183cm, 214 cm and 245cm. When choosing your satin bed sheets you should know that there are many ways of manufacturing satin and most suppliers are insistent that their satin fabric is the best. Generally, as usual, you get what you pay for!

What about satin waterbed sheets?
When it comes to buying waterbed sheets, and this also applies to satin waterbed sheets, manufacturers of devised a system for fastening the upper sheet to the lower fitted waterbed sheet. This is commonly done by sewing the two sheets together at the bottom end which saves you from having to tuck the top sheet in all the time. This can be particularly useful for me wooden framed waterbeds since the pressure and weight of the water in the mattress often makes it hard to tuck in the bed sheets - all the more reason for having fitted sheets. Other waterbed sheet manufacturers have devised a triangular flap or corner piece of material. This is added to the sheet and then tucks right under the mattress. It certainly helps holding the sheet in place and not slipping off at night or when you're sleeping.

What is the best satin?
Satin is a woven material and it is the way it is woven that gives it that luxuriously shiny look. Some products are ‘knitted’ and this method of manufacture creates a rather rough texture. The fibers used for weaving satin are acetate, nylon, polyester and silk. Silk bedding is expensive and worth every cent if you've got lots to splash around, which is probably why many of the famous stars in Hollywood such as Cameron Díaz love to sleep in it. Seriously though, you can find cheaper qualities of silk; but it also requires considerable laundering care, as doe’s acetate. You will be safe – and probably very happy - if you stick to 100% woven polyester or nylon. You will see Carmeuse Satin on many sites – sometimes called satin silk. It is a sensual fabric that looks and feels silky; it drapes beautifully.
